Abstract

This research aims to determine the role of the government and the community in developing Um Island as a leading tourist attraction in Sorong. In addition, this study also aims to determine the management of Um Island facilities and infrastructure and how to deal with the ecology on Um Island so that it is not disturbed and not extinct. This research is a qualitative type. In addition, in this study a SWOT analysis was also conducted on the development of Um Island tourism. The results showed that the role of the Sorong Regency government in developing Um Island was to promote Um Island to the fullest through various media and to make maximum use of visits to other regions. The government also has the role of facilitating the development of facilities on Um Island, then launching the design of making small villages that will be equipped with various facilities needed by the community. Um Island is very well managed by the community. Communities that are trusted to manage ensure the cleanliness of the island and maintain the ecosystem by making strict rules for visitors not to fish in the sea and not littering. In terms of facilities management, the community always checks all facilities such as toilets and bathrooms. If damage is found, the management community will always make improvements which are the source of the cost of repairs from the income coming in on the Um Island. To ensure that the marine ecosystems on Um Island are maintained, the public strictly forbids anyone from fishing and littering Um Island
