Abstract
This research is a qualitative research method. Data collection techniques derived from interviews and questionnaires with the main data sources are artists fighting lawang, head of the agency, village head and community of Belitung island. The purpose of this study to determine the role of society and government in maintaining and preserving the tradition of fighting lawang in Belitung Island The tradition of Berebut lawang is one of the stage ini the wedding procession in Belitung island or called Ngunggah. Along with the development of this tradition era began to be summarized and not infrequently there are people who do not implement it, this is due to the paradigm and mindset of the community. Therefore the need for the role of government and society The role of the Government in maintaining and preserving the tradition The fighting of this lawang, one of them by making policies or regulations that make this tradition can be implemented at every wedding in Belitung in accordance with the guidelines on the implementation of tradition Berebut lawang from the people of the past and still original. The role of society must defend and cultivate the culture or tradition To fight the lawang by maintaining and carrying out this tradition in every marriage event in Belitung, as well as introducing the tradition to the young generation by teaching this tradition from generation to generation
