Abstract
Klaten Regency is an area that has a wealth of natural re sources in the form of water tourism that has great potential to be developed. These resources include springs or springs, rivers, and swamps spread across various regions. This potential makes Klaten one of the leading water tourism destinations in Central Java Province. This study aims to map the distribution and explore the potential of water tourism in Klaten Regency to support the development of tourist destinations. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques in the form of field observations, interviews with managers, documentation, and literature studies from various relevant sources. The results of the study show that there are 24 water tourism objects spread across eight sub-districts, with Umbul Pelem, Umbul Brondong, Umbul Brintik, and Rivermoon Tubing as objects that have the highest number of visits. These objects show strong appeal, both in terms of nature and the tourism experience offered. However, the development of water-based nature tourism in Klaten Regency still faces various obstacles, such as minimal digital promotion, limited accessibility to the location, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, and management that is still traditional and unprofessional. To overcome these challenges, this study recommends the use of digital technology through spatial mapping using Google Maps and Google My Maps. This approach is expected to help in the promotion, planning, and management of destinations more efficiently and in a targeted manner. Thus, the potential for water tourism in Klaten can be developed optimally and sustainably. The results of this study are expected to be a reference for policy makers such as tourism managers, and the community in designing the development of local tourism that is competitive and based on regional potential.
