Abstract

Travel motivation is an important aspect in tourists' decision-making; this aspect may arise from within or outside a person to engage in tourism activities. In the modern era, where information exchange occurs rapidly through social media, travel motivation can emerge when someone sees tourism content on their social media. Current tourism trends align with the phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), when someone feels anxious about being left out of others' activities and insists on joining in, especially among college students who are considered young travelers. Students were chosen as research subjects because the young age group is generally active on social media, which is one of the main factors in the Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) phenomenon. The purpose of this research is to find out the relationship between travel motivation and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) among students of Ambarrukmo Tourism College Yogyakarta, using a quantitative method with data collected through questionnaires. The findings of this research show that there is a reciprocal positive relationship between t ravel motivation and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), and it is concluded that the positive relationship between the two variables proves that students with strong travel motivation may develop feelings of anxiety about being left out of others' travel activities; conversely, when students see a tourism trend, the motivation to visit the destination.
