Abstract

Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano is a leading ecotourism destination in Yogyakarta with its geological uniqueness and cultural value. This research identifies ecotourism principles and formulates development strategies using descriptive qualitative methods with a SWOT analysis approach. The results showed the application of the principles of nature conservation, community empowerment, environmental education, and environmental, social and economic balance. SWOT analysis resulted in a development strategy of geological uniqueness strengths, human resource training weaknesses, infrastructure improvements, government & UNESCO support opportunities, disaster mitigation threats, and destination competition and climate change. This strategy is expected to increase tourist attractiveness and ecotourism sustainability.
