Abstract

This study aims to analyze the readiness of the community in providing lodging for tourists in Turgo-Merapi Tourism Village, Sleman. Using qualitative methods, data was collected through participatory observation, semistructured interviews, and documentation. The results showed that most lodgings are still managed traditionally by utilizing private houses as homestays. The main motivation of the community in opening this business is economic factors, but their understanding of accommodation service standards is still limited. Lack of training and education leads to suboptimal quality of facilities and services, while infrastructure limitations such as sanitation and accessibility affect tourist comfort. In addition, marketing is still done conventionally without maximum utilization of digital technology. Another obstacle is the dependence on tourist seasons because there is no diversification of services that can attract tourists throughout the year. In the context of Community Based Tourism (CBT), active community involvement is an important factor in sustainable tourism management. Therefore, synergy between the community, government, and academics is needed in providing technical training, improving facilities, and optimizing digital marketing. Diversification of tourism products also needs to be developed, such as cultural tourism, ecotourism, and educational tourism, so that tourist visits are not limited to certain seasons. In addition, improving lodging facilities, such as improving sanitation, ventilation, bedding, and accessibility, will increase the competitiveness of local lodging. With this collaborative effort, Turgo-Merapi Tourism Village can become a competitive, sustainable destination that provides economic benefits to the local community. The implementation of appropriate strategies in lodging management will increase the attractiveness of this village as a leading tourist destination and strengthen the contribution of the tourism sector to the welfare of local communities in a sustainable manner. The sustainability of this tourism village will greatly depend on the readiness of the community in managing lodging according to tourism industry standards.
