Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of alternative tourism based on ecotourism in supporting the tourist attraction of Potrobayan River Camp, located in Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the site's tourism management has not fully aligned with ecotourism principles such as environmental conservation, local community participation, and socioeconomic sustainability. Potrobayan River Camp has great potential as an ecotourism destination due to its natural beauty and opportunities for educational tourism activities; however, it still requires institutional strengthening, human resource capacity building, and collaboration among managers, local communities, the government, and private sectors to establish structured, educational, and sustainable tourism development.
