Abstract

The Turgo area is an eco-tourism area based on the Sleman Regency Regulation No. 11 of 2015, Article 17 Paragraph (2) letter b. As an eco-tourism area, one of the tourism activities in the Turgo-Merapi Tourism Village is the Bird Watching Program. This program is one of the potentials of the implementation of the eco-tourism pillar. This study aims to describe how the Bird Watching Program serves as an implementation of the eco-tourism pillar in Turgo-Merapi Tourism Village using a qualitative method with a descriptive case study approach. The research findings are examined from the socio-cultural aspects of the program's implementation, including the distribution of management responsibilities, the active participation of a community group in management, and direct feedback from tourists in the form of management suggestions. The economic aspect involves profits from observing the Red-whiskered Bulbul and its nests, which can create job opportunities and a profit-sharing system distributed equally. From the environmental aspect, there is no environmental damage, the planting of media for bird habitats, and the cultivation of community awareness regarding the importance of nature conservation and preservation. Therefore, despite being a new program, it has positive impacts for both the community and conservation efforts. The author suggests conducting training for tour guides, strengthening conservation education through digital applications about bird species, ecosystem roles, and the importance of conservation, and conducting regular environmental impact monitoring.
