Abstract

Bandar Bakau Mangrove Forest in Dumai City, Riau Province, is an ecotourism area that has great potential in terms of ecology, education, and economy. This study aims to identify and formulate a strategy for sustainable management of the ecosystem in the area. The research approach used is qualitative with observation methods, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and data analysis refers to the Miles and Huberman model. The results of the study indicate that the management of the area still faces various obstacles such as land conflicts, budget constraints, weak coordination between parties, and minimal policy support from the government. The recommended strategies include strengthening local institutions, improving tourism supporting facilities and infrastructure, cross-sector collaboration, and increasing environmental education for the community and visitors. With this strategy, Bandar Bakau Mangrove Forest is expected to develop into an ecotourism destination based on ecosystem sustainability and provide long-term benefits for the environment and surrounding communities.
