Abstract

Pulau Sapi Tourism Village, located in Malinau Regency, North Kalimantan, is known for its significant tourism potential, including natural beauty, local culture, and the unique way of life of its community. This study aims to evaluate how the village is managed based on the principles of sustainable tourism. These principles include environmental conservation, community empowerment, cultural preservation, and responsible, long-term tourism management. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through field observations, interviews with local residents, village managers, and government officials, as well as supporting documentation. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which involves data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that some sustainable tourism principles have begun to be implemented, especially in terms of cultural preservation and community involvement. However, several challenges remain, such as limited supporting infrastructure, lack of promotional efforts, and low human resource capacity in sustainable tourism management. Institutional aspects also need improvement, particularly in terms of clear regulations and inter-agency collaboration. This study recommends enhancing community capacity, developing clearer policies, and strengthening collaboration between the government, the local community, and tourism managers to support more sustainable tourism village management.
