Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the sustainable tourism concept in enhancing the competitive advantage of Kampung Batik Giriloyo, Yogyakarta. A qualitative approach was used in this research, with data collection techniques including field observations, in-depth interviews, document studies, and documentation. The research informants consisted of Kampung Batik Giriloyo managers, local communities, and tourists. Data validity was tested using the triangulation method through various sources, techniques, and time. The collected data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The research findings indicate that Kampung Batik Giriloyo has comprehensively applied the concept of sustainable tourism based on three key indicators: economic, socio-cultural, and environmental. This implementation has contributed to increasing the village’s competitiveness as a cultural-based tourism destination. Sustainable management enables Kampung Batik Giriloyo to maintain its existence as a center of handmade batik while also serving as a model for successful sustainable tourism that can compete with other tourist destinations. Based on these findings, several recommendations are provided for managers, tourists, and future researchers. Managers are advised to develop more diverse cultural-based tourism services and strengthen regulations related to environmental and cultural sustainability. Tourists are encouraged to actively participate in maintaining cleanliness and preserving the local culture. Meanwhile, future research is suggested to examine governance aspects, the role of technology, and the involvement of various stakeholders in supporting sustainable tourism using a mixed-methods approach to obtain more comprehensive data.
