Abstract

Klaten Regency is an area famous for its abundant natural springs, one of them is Umbul Sigedang-Kapilaler, a natural spring tourism in Klaten Regency, Central Java. This study aims to determine the role of the community in managing the natural tourism potential of Umbul Sigedang-Kapilaler in Klaten Regency, Central Java. The methodology used in this study is a qualitative method, the author conducted interviews, observations, and documentation at Umbul Sigedang-Kapilaler. Based on the results of this study, it was found that the community around Umbul Sigedang-Kapilaler participated in its management. The community that participated was seen from three forms, namely thoughts, energy, and money. And seen from four indicators, namely participation in decision making, participation in implementing, participation in taking benefits, and participation in evaluation. The role of the community in management such as all employees who work at Umbul-Sigedang-Kapilaler are local people. Not only working as employees, the local community also participated in making supporting tourism facilities such as providing parking lots in their yards, making toilets, and changing rooms. The community involved in the management of Umbul Sigedang-Kapilaler is expected to continue to be given assistance and training to improve skills, so that they can manage Umbul SigedangKapilaler well.
