Abstract

This research aims to describe the potential of Gua Maria Jatiningsih as a religious tourism destination in Sleman Regency. The approach used was qualitative research with data collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews and documentation. The results showed that the potential of Gua Maria Jatiningsih as a religious tourism destination in Sleman Regency is evidenced by the attractiveness in the form of the thick Kejawen culture, the availability of various kinds of attractions, adequate amenity, easy accessibility, sufficient ancillary services and several efforts to develop Gua Maria Jatiningsih to be better known by the wider community. The practice of Kejawen culture as one of the attractions is proven by the presence of visitors other than Catholics who pray on Tuesday and Friday Kliwon nights. Therefore, high tolerance is still very much felt at this Gua Maria. There are eleven kinds of attractions that are realized in the form of buildings, statues, springs and also Eucharistic celebrations related to spiritual tourism activities. Gua Maria Jatiningsih has a Baptism Monument as one of the attractions that is different from other Marian Caves. Supporting factors for the various attractions are seen in adequate amenity and ancillary services. Amenity and additional services are able to provide convenience and comfort for visitors while in Jatiningsih Marian Cave. In the application of the 4A of tourism, accessibility is an added value of Gua Maria Jatiningsih because it is located not too far from the city center and is supported by a calm atmosphere that supports visitors to carry out spiritual activities. The manager is also making efforts to develop Gua Maria Jatiningsih so that it is increasingly recognized by the public. The development is also carried out to provide additional comfort for visitors in carrying out prayers at the Jatiningsih Marian Grotto.
