Abstract

Caci Dance is a traditional cultural art of the Manggarai people in East Nusa Tenggara, which embodies local wisdom values and the characteristics of the Indonesian nation. This study aims to identify and analyze the local wisdom values within the Caci Dance, as well as its role in strengthening cultural identity and shaping national character. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach, involving observation, interviews, and document studies. The findings indicate that Caci Dance reflects values of courage, sportsmanship, solidarity, and honor, which have been passed down through generations. Furthermore, this dance contributes to national character building by instilling the values of mutual cooperation (gotong royong), resilience, and respect for tradition and ancestors. However, its preservation faces significant challenges, including a lack of regeneration, external cultural influences, and limited support from the government and private sector. To sustain this cultural heritage, a comprehensive strategy involving multiple stakeholders is necessary, such as cultural education for younger generations, government policies supporting traditional arts, and digital promotion to introduce Caci Dance to a broader audience. With these efforts, Caci Dance can not only endure as a cultural heritage but also serve as an asset in strengthening Indonesia’s national identity amid globalization.
