Abstract

Bima is a regency located on the island of Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara Province. On the island of Sumbawa there are many good and very interesting tourist destinations to visit, one of which is the result of the art and culture of the Bima community which has become a hereditary culture, namely the horse racing culture. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of the community and government in preserving the horse racing culture. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research and uses SWOT analysis. From the results of this study it can be concluded that the community is enthusiastic in preserving the horse racing culture. Each of these cultures is carried out by the community directly gathering to carry out this culture in accordance with the customary rules that exist in the area. The obstacles faced in preserving the horse racing culture have started to become modern so that carrying out this culture has begun to decrease because it has begun to be isolated from horse maintenance to be competed in the racetrack.
