Abstract

The study aims to describe and understand the freedom of travel; understand Sartre's existentialism paradigm in analyzing the tourism phenomenon during the pandemic; as well as to find out new constructions of tourism governance during the pandemic. The research in this thesis was conducted using qualitative methods, by interviewing five informants to collect data. Apart from collecting data through interviews, it also uses documentation and participatory observation of the informants' activities while traveling and doing tourism in the selected locations. This study uses the paradigm of Sartre's existentialism philosophy as a guideline and analytical benchmark for informants who being freely existed through selected tourism activities. The results of the study answered the research objectives; where freedom to travel is a tourist activity carried out freely under the inherent human rights and freedoms, including the freedom to choose tourism destinations and activities, freedom in choosing facilities, freedom in activities when the tour takes place, does not bound and limited by many rules, travel without burdens and without restraints, as well as freedom in exploring when traveling and without being pressed for time circumtance. Here comes next, the results of the analysis through Sartre's existentialism paradigm illustrate that the consciousness has succeeded in coming out of existence and the subject of existence through tourism activities which are carried out freely without disturbances, limitations, prohibitions, and the free manifestation of internal drives. This can be seen from the fulfillment of all the foritself structures by each unit of analysis through the results of research when conducting tourism activities freely. This means that consciousness succeeds in existing through actions while traveling freely. The new construction of tourism governance in the pandemic era which is guided by the analysis of Sartre's existentialism paradigm is contained in a mini-theory of "Kebebasan Berwisata" which contains eighteen propositions from eleven linked concepts. The locus of the mini-theory of "Kebebasan Berwisata" is based on the concept of tourism experience as the dependent variable.
