Abstract

This study aims to description about Batik Tanggamus characteristics, communites efforts, role of the government, and the benefit of the development of batik in the Tanggamus district. This type of research is used a qualitative approach that produced descriptive data. The data used is obtained from observations, interviews, questionnaires and documentation. The data was ccollected and presented by qualitative descriptive. The result showed that characteristics of batik Tanggamus with motifs like dolphin, siger, jukung. The color combination of batik Tanggamus used bright colors and its function as clothest is not bound by rules. Community efforts are to preserve by buying, using and promoting batik. The government’s role in this case are support for promotion and issued policy to using the batik. The impact of the development of batik has not much influence on the social, cultural and economic life of the supporting communities.
