Abstract

mouse deer puppet is one type of shadow puppets in Yogyakarta with a smaller shape with animal character motifs. The function of the mouse deer puppet is used to give moral messages and also education to children, the role of the government and society is very important in maintaining and preserving the mouse deer puppets which are now interested in decreasing and also keeping lost, besides innovation and making it a tourist attraction is wrong one way is taken to be able to defend the mouse deer puppet so that it can continue to be sustainable and can be enjoyed by the next generation. In this study the authors used qualitative methods. The results of the study the authors answered that the reduced interest of tourists and children now makes the existence of the mouse deer puppets diminish and also only a few people can perform puppet mouse deer.
