Abstract

Mount Gentong is a new natural tourist attraction located in the northern zone of Gunungkidul district, precisely located in the hamlet of Manggung, Ngalang village, Gedangsari sub-district, Gunungkidul district. This tourist attraction was opened on October 2, 2016 by local managers. With the beauty of the scenery on the mountain, it is suitable to see sunrise, sunset, camping, and there are many points to take pictures, as well as unique tourist icons. Gentong Mountain quickly attracts tourists to visit. The research method used is a qualitative method. While the data collection techniques used in this study are observation, interviews and literature studies. After the data obtained is collected, then the data is analyzed by using SWOT analysis techniques. The results showed that: The management strategy of Gunung Gentong Gedangsari tourist attraction as a leading tourist destination in Gunungkidul district can be implemented if there is a cooperative relationship between the government and managers with the local community and young generation, adding new attractions, improving road access, maximizing promotions, provide foreign tour guides and further development. But in its management in terms of funding is still limited, promotion is not optimal, there is no regulation, and access is not good. Therefore, it can be concluded that if Mount Gentong's management as a natural tourist attraction when more managed and developed can have a positive impact such as increasing the regional economy, the opportunity to prosper the surrounding community, increase the number of tourist visits and can make Mount Gentong Gedangsari a superior tourist destination in the district Gunungkidul.
