Abstract

The background of this research is the existence of Wayang Gantung in Singkawang city, which is now is almost extinct. There are some of complicated factors that being obtacles in conservation of Wayang Gantung as cultural heritage in Singkawang city, such as goverment policy, the development of visual technology, and nominal economy in every Wayang Gantung shows also making the fate of Wayang Gantung shifted by the times. There were some of support and assitance from Goverment but also have not presenting the significant results yet. This research use qualitative method. The collection techniques of data used are observation, interview, documentation and quisioner as supporting data. The collected data is from several sources, such as : Mr. Tjhin Nen Sin and his wife, Mr. Tjhin Nen Sin’s family, the Goverment, and the people those nearby his (old) house. This research is results some of things that could be the key for the conservation of Wayang Gantung in Singkawang city, whereby that things is not built yet between the Mr. Tjhin Nen Sin, goverment and the people in there. They shoul have a good coorporate and commitment between Mr. Tjhin Nen Sin, goverment and the local people is needed to revive Wayang Gantung which now is almost extinct. Such as, the goverment should to create the policy to protect Wayang Gantung. Build a Tionghoa cultural center to preserve Wayang Gantung and the other culture.
