Abstract

The tourism industry is an industry that has great potential in Indonesia. With its natural wealth, history, and cultural heritage, it encourages job creation, improves the quality of society, and fosters patriotism or love for the homeland. Cultural heritage is categorized into material cultural heritage and intangible cultural heritage. One of the things that will be discussed in this scientific article is the intangible cultural heritage in the form of batik. Batik is an intangible cultural heritage that has been recognized by UNESCO. In accordance with this explanation, it is important for the public to know how the efforts to preserve batik are owned by the Indonesian state. In this scientific article, we discuss the efforts to preserve Batik Cengkeh owned by Trenggalek Regency. Batik Cengkeh is one of the batiks that became the icon of Trenggalek. Through observation, interviews, and documentation, external and internal factors emerged which were then processed using SWOT analysis. From this analysis, it was found that the role of managers, government, and the community is very much needed in the effort to preserve Batik Cengkeh in Trenggalek Regency. That way the intangible cultural heritage owned by Trenggalek Regency will remain sustainable, so that it can be enjoyed by the next generation.
