Abstract

Kurung malay traditional clothes is one of the typical clothes of Natuna Kepulauan Riau, which has its own uniqueness and there is a meaningful philosophy in its usage. In this report presented qualitatively to get the overview of the role of goverment and how the role of Natuna community to the preservation of kurung Malay typical cloth in Natuna. The method used for data collection is by obseration, interview, and questionnaire. The data obtained are then analyzed qualitatively. The result of research indicate that the kurung Malay are still often used by the local people howover the younger generation of people have started to not to wear the clothes of kurung Malay due to the era development and the influence of culture, so that Natuna local goverment needs to make various efforts in preservation of kurung Malay in order to stay awake to the nekt generation.
