Abstract

Museum is the one of the attractions that is classified as educational tourism that can increase the country's foreign exchange also able to develop human culture and civilization. In the other words, museum is not only engaged in the cultural sector, but can move in the education or education sector, economy, politics, social, and etcetera (etc). The State Museum of North Sumatra Province is a culture-based and educational museum located on Jalan H.M Joni Number 51 Medan, North Sumatra. This museum has the first collection like statue or macara. What makes this museum better known as the "Arca Building". However, the lack of interest of tourists to visit the museum is needed to develop in order to increase the level of tourist visits. This research was conducted using qualitative methods through a case study method. Data was obtained through interviews, observation and study of literature and documentation. The steps of data analysis include data reduction, data presentation and verification. In its development, the efforts made are by improving the services of the management, adding to the collection of museums, making the agenda of the year such as events, exhibitions on a regular basis, and building cooperation with the other stakeholders. The display of objects on the displayed at The State Museum of North Sumatra Province is well organized neatly equipped with collections and lighting lamps. In addition, the level of tourist visits based on data that has been obtained is unstable, there are decrease and increase in the level of tourist visits due to a lack of interest of tourists visiting the museum. Besides that, it was also caused by the lack of service from the management to the tourists.
